Collecting Kiner

One of my spontaneous collecting interests this year was Ralph Kiner. I have always liked him---and I do not know why! But I remember glomming onto him in the 1980s and acquired a few of his vintage cards from when I was first collecting as a youngster and into my teens. The three I acquired were the 1948 Bowman, 1951 Topps Red Backs, and 1952 Topps.

Then this year I decided---and this is where the spontaneity comes into play---to go after the rest of them and so chipped away at finding the right card at what I felt was the right, or a right price. His playing career spanned from just 1946 to 1955. But there aren't major releases for 1946 and 1947 so at the moment I don't have any of those. Anyway. Here are the cards, some of which I have shown before on the blog.

The last card I needed was the 1949 Bowman and it arrived in November.

Gorgeous! Complete run of the major releases of Kiner cards for his playing career. I love having these cards. One or maybe two of them were graded but I cannot abide by that so I broke them out. I saved the grading label just in case, but I doubt it'll be honored if the event that I part with them.

Thanks for stopping by!
