Clayton Kershaw doesn't do much for me. Now now now... I recognize he was great for a good many years. I acknowledge that. But he's still "Meh." This year was all about getting to 3000 Ks even though he didn't need to reach it for his Hall of Fame hopes. He is a shoo-in. His inclusion in the All-Star Game was sad and pathetic. It was announced a short while ago today that he's retiring after this season. I would have had more respect for him had he made that announcement after the season is over. But, at least it's only about 10 days of regular season farewell crap to deal with; plus whatever happens in the postseason. The days of season long showcasing of affection and showering gifts such as happened with Rivera and maybe Jeter and Ortiz I hope are well in the past.
I keep a binder of Topps cards. It's one card from every year from 1951 with the red and blue backs to today. I chose Kershaw for 2021 Topps to represent the 2020 season in acknowledgement of their World Series Win*. Look, we all know what the asterisk is for! And they got a full season World Series last year, but I do not at the moment recall much of Kershaw's contributions to that team. Just looked it up; he went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in seven games (30 IP). Way to go! And according to Baseball Reference he did not pitch in the World Series. I guess he was injured or something?
In 2016, I went to a work thing near Pittsburgh only because the Pirates were home, hosting the Dodgers. I ditched the thing because it was awful and went to PNC Park for a ballpark tour and to watch the game. Kershaw walked right past me.
Thanks for stopping by!
