Most of Topps variations bore me. All of the parallels do. Though I have some in my collection(s), they are mostly done because of a trade match in which I could get rid of cards I do not want in exchange for, well, cards I also do not want but the desire not to own them is less than it is for the cards I'm trying to get rid of. Confusing? We are pummelled with variations. With checklists that go on and on and on into infinity and beyond, it seems. However, I stumbled across a variation the other day on eBay that I was like, "Huh, that looks pretty sweet! I'm disappointed with myself (again)."
Now I'm not sure if Topps have done this one before, but the Lightboard variation looks sweet. Here are two examples.
I am not sure if I'll try to get one to see what it looks like in hand as the checklist isn't totally to my liking. If McCutchen had one I might go for it, but he isn't in the checklist. Jose Ramirez or Steven Kwan could be potentials. But if and only if....
Topps' Topps Now gimmick is several years old at this point and I have been lucky to have attended a few games where something notable happened. Have you? Do you collect them if you were there? Or does the gimmick not grab you? Last week and weekend in St Louis and Kansas City they selected three moments from the four games to recognize and so now I am in a conundrum about what to do. Card 617, Bubba Chandler, for his first win in the Major Leagues; Card 630 for Riley Greene doing something; and Card 633 for Bobby Witt Jr.'s game winning home run in the same series as Riley Greene's accomplishments. Had there been one moment (Bubba's being the coolest), I could have seen going in for it. But three! Three seems a bit much. WHAT DO I DO?
Thanks for stopping by!
They are interesting. Maybe if the cost isn't stupid I'll try one on.
