TCDb decides what is and what isn't a baseball (or trading card) and they also act as arbiters on whether or not a player can be, or is, counted as being depicted in the card or not. And this has led to a discrepancy in the cards that form a part of my Darryl Strawberry collection.
1984 Fun Food Pins
It used to be there and then got removed. Meanwhile, other pins and buttons are listed... There are oodles and oodles of "cards" that aren't actually cards on the site; and I cannot figure out why this one was expunged. Well, I couldn't but this Forum Post explains why; but it's still inconsistent when you consider that the site even allows some custom cards (like those stupid and awful Gummy Arts cards).
1986 All-Star Game Program Inserts
It used to be there and then got removed. (I should know because I uploaded the whole "set".) Meanwhile, other All-Star program inserts are are listed...
1991 Kenner Starting Lineup Cards Black Print Back
It used to be there and then got removed. Meanwhile, other they are only using the cards with blue ink. These have been all over the place over the years, at one point being listed under Starting Lineup. And of course they don't let you know when they move your cards. You only find out when you try to reconcile numbers. This Forum post may explain it...
1992 Kenner Starting Lineup Black Print Back
Ditto the above.
2021 Topps X ESPN 30-for-30: "Once Upon a Time in Queens", card 21, with Mike Tyson and Dwight Gooden
I just don't understand how this isn't a Gooden, Strawberry, Tyson card? There are other cards in this set that feature three players and they all count. TCDb is frustratingly inconsistent! I think they consider this a "cameo". Sorry: Wrong. They are just as much of a subject of the card as Tyson and one might argue, correctly, Strawberry and Gooden are the primary subjects and Tyson is the cameo. The set is, after all, about THE METS.
2021 Topps X ESPN 30-for-30: "Once Upon a Time in Queens", card 29, with Gary Carter, Wally Backman, Keith Hernandez
A Gary Carter card. Yet, Backman, Strawberry and Hernandez are prominent.
2021 Topps X ESPN 30-for-30: "Once Upon a Time in Queens", 40, with Mets team
And the whole dang team. What's dumb about this is that they know who is in the photo and yet those Glossy All-Star insert cards that came with rack packs back in the day had team cards for some years and all players get credit or recognition in those.
Back in 2021 I asked about adding players as linked persons but it was not permitted and I just still don't really understand why. I might try again because when it comes to TCDb it's clear I like banging my head up against a wall.
But, while these don't count on TCDb, they do count for my collection and TCDb can go to hell in a handbasket.
Thanks for stopping by!
