A few posts ago, Mike from Not Another Baseball Card blog commented with an eBay link to a hard-to-find Darryl Strawberry card.
I clicked it and thought about it for a few minutes and then clicked off the page. I then went back to "watch" it as a way to bookmark the card. The seller offered me a little discount shortly thereafter and I thought about that for a short while before accepting the "deal", such as it was, and completing the transaction. So, in a sense, Mike spent my money. Thanks, Mike!
Oh! The card. Right. Sorry, forgot about that...
It is the 1996 St. Paul's Saints card from Darryl Strawberry. The first time I saw the card years ago, I thought: it's all wrinkled and creased. So I was turned off. But, dummy that I am, I realized after looking at some of the other cards in the set that it was the design!
I am thrilled to have this. Last summer we did two Twins games in Minneapolis and drove passed the ballpark in downtown St. Paul where the Saints play. Though, we did not see the Saints play, it was nice to see the place.
It is great to see in the card above Strawberry's complete career stats to that point. I'm not sure if there are PCL cards for Phoenix or Albuquerque or a FSL card for Florida. But there is another of his mid-to-late career minor league cards in the collection:1995 Columbus Clippers.
For what it's worth, Mike did not spend my money on this card... I don't think.
Thanks for stopping by!
i saw mr. strawberry play in st. paul, there were trains that ran out past the outfield fence, i recall him banging at least one off a train car after clearing the fence. or my memory could be wrong.
