Well, I bought the 1988 Fleer set complete back in December and it came with the World Series insert and a bunch of the team stickers. Some of them were dupes and some were missing so I've been steadily working on getting all of the ones I needed and jettisoning from my life those that were dupes.
And the last team stickers arrived the other day! So the set is complete.
sI did splurge and purchase the All-Star Team insert set to add to it as well as the Headliners, which I realize I forgot to include in the photograph below (oops); and I didn't bother with team sticker variations. With my Strawberry and Kruk PC, variations were/are important. But, not for this kind of an endeavor.
I've always loved 1988 Fleer. It's as boring a set as 1988 Donruss or even 1986 Topps, in terms of not a lot of exciting rookies or whatever, but a host of veterans that are legends and/or Hall of Famers. I like the set so much that when I had the chance to meet Darryl Strawberry a couple of years ago at his induction to the NY State Baseball Hall of Fame, I brought a long the 1988 Fleer card to get signed. I almost decided on the Headliners card which is among my most favorites, but the card itself is rather busy as it is and I thought the autograph my get lost in it. I chose Orange Sharpie for the signature because I thought it would look nice, and it's a Mets color.
Well, the signature is harder to see than I had hoped when I selected Orange, but it's a nice thing to have and a very memorable occasion.
Thanks for stopping by!
