In counting my 1980 Topps set build the other week, I realized that I was three cards short of the complete set. This was when I thought I was one card shy. I found a guy on TCDb with all three cards and we made a deal. Then, I discovered I actually had one of the three cards (201, Keith Hernandez and Fred Lynn leaders)! So this is the Gremlins working in the other way than they usually do.
But the final cards that I ended up needing were bigger ones: George Brett, Robin Yount, Ozzie Smith, and Nolan Ryan. I was able to get all these through TCDb rather than purchases so while I gave up cards, I don't think I'll miss them very much at all.
Oh, I am so thrilled to have this done. Now I have sets for 1974 (in a binder), 1979-1992, 2016, and 2018 Stadium Club (in a binder).
And I think I've gone through the stacks several times now. So if I'm missing any, it's beyond me. The thrill of the completed set! I'm really grateful for the help I got in completing this set through the trades I made, but also from Chris B via BlueSky whose generosity was significant. Thanks Chris!
Thanks for stopping by!

Congrats! It's a great one. ... The first set I actually tried to complete as a young teen (before that I never thought it was possible). I came up 16 cards short in 1980.
ReplyDeleteThanks Night Owl. 16 is so close! The 26 I needed were all Hall of Famers; but I got it done and that's all that matters.
DeleteCongrats on completing one of the better looking Topps sets.
