2026 First Collecting Goal achieved

At the close of 2025, I had 98 unique Andrew McCutchen cards and so by default, because we like milestone numbers, reaching 100 unique cards was one of my primary collecting goals for 2026. I ordered a bunch of cards around or just after Christmas thinking that though they were 2025 purchases, they wouldn't come until 2026.

Well, at Christmas, my dad gave me a nice numbered orange parallel for 2023 Stadium Club and that became card 99!

Its SN is 007, so this is officially my James Bond Andrew McCutchen card.

So, the race was on for 100 and it arrived on the first mailing day of January (that's January second).

In my McCutchen collection, which is exclusively Topps products because I don't care for the airbrushed stuff, I had base, insert, update, yada yada yada. I sought out some relic and material cards, too. Trying to be representative, or something. My dad's card gave me a serial number card.  What's left to want?

An autograph.

The above is a 2025 Finest Rookie Cup Anniversary Autograph and commemorates the "2009 - 15th Anniversary". Now, I'm no mathematician, but 2009 + 15 = 2024. So maybe that card should have come out in 2024 rather than 2025, or, it could have celebrated his "Sweet 16th" year?? This particular card is graded by SGC and received a 9.5 or "Mint +" and is serial numbered to 50.

The other McCutchen cards I ordered all fell into my mailbox just after this one, but they will be a separate blog post. It's great to complete a goal so early in the year. I have other goals, but generally I don't like to post about them until they are reached.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sweet on-card auto! The anniversary weirdness comes from Topps putting the Rookie Cups on cards one year after the award is given out. McCutchen's 2010 Topps cards showed the Rookie Cup logo for his 2009 award, and this 2025 card is showing the cup 15 years after the logo appeared on his cards. It's the anniversary of the card showing the award, not the award itself. With anniversary logic like that, I imagine the divorce rate at Topps is a bit elevated.

    1. Ah ha! Thank you for that. I should have realized that but was clearly thinking too literally or something. Thanks!
