Two John Kruks

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me, two John Kruk cards in the garb as a Philly Phillie...

Kruk. The word is interchangeably synonymous with beauty and love. For example, I often tell my wife, "I Kruk you." And she knows what I mean. "Kruk off" is also kind of fun to say. She tells me to "Kruk off" all the time.

The two newest John Kruk cards are these. First: the 2022 Red Foil Stadium Club.

It makes such a difference to the card, don't it, that red foil? As compared to that boring base card.

And then this recent 2025 insert for MLB All-Star Game Greats.

Kruk had one of the more iconic All-Star Game at bats against Randy Johnson, from which this image was sourced. In 1991, he was on the All-Star team but did not get an at bat. In 1992, he went 2-2 and scored a run. He also made one error and one outfield assist. In 1993 he was 0-3 with two strikeouts making his career all-star game at bats a 2-5 situation.

But it feels increasingly like no one has the opportunity to be an All-Star Game great. If Skenes keeps it up, he'll be. But with guys throwing 1,000 mph fastballs all game long, with the parade of arms that the game is, no hitter will really be an All-Star Game Great. Unless it's the Home Run Off like we had this year. But hopefully we can avoid that again.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Recognized that image right away, from the Randy Johnson at-bat. Good stuff.
