SP McCutchens

In early 2018, Andrew McCutchen was traded along with some cash to the San Francisco Giants. They traded the franchise player away just before his 10th anniversary with the team would would have given him 10/5 rights. They got back Bryan Reynolds and some other stuff. Reynolds has probably been disappointing on the whole. He may have been expected to be the next franchise player, but instead, the Pirates became listless: not a good thing for any kind of ship. In 2023, McCutchen returned to the team after a very brief foray with the NY Yankess later in 2018, a three year stint with the Phillies, and another year with thew Brewers. He's been a class act wherever he has gone and he has also been productive.

Back when there were two trade deadlines, McCutchen was sent on 31 August 2018 after 130 games, again with cash, for something or other in return. He then played 25 five games for the Yankees.

McCutchen's base card for Topps in 2018 was with the Pirates in Series 1.

He had a few Topps Updates that year as you can imagine. Two with the Giants and one with the Yankees. All US83 for the card number. One was a base issue, and then of course there were two SP/Variations.

The most recent McCutchen cards into the collection are the two SP variations. First is him throwing with the Giants and second is a clean-shaved image with the Yankees.

While he only appeared in 25 regular season games for the Yankees, he had 45 cards as a Yankees. That feels "right" for what baseball cards have become.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. McCutchen didn't see like he belonged in a Giants uniform and definitely not in a Yankees uniform. He's where he should be.

  2. Wasn't with the Giants long enough for it to feel right even though he was (and I think remains) a fan favorite there. I have the Giants SP and landed a 3D version of the Yankees card.
