2025 Card Season

Yesterday, Topps released Series 1 for the 2025 base set. It is now officially card season, which is better than either wabbit season or duck season. It has been rather exciting seeing some of the cards posted online between sites like BlueSky and TCDB. As well as the base cards, there appears to be, as usual, seven hundred eighteen million and a half inserts and variations, which grossly waters down an attempt to build a set via packs and "blasters" and other bulk-card purchasing options. I built the 2016 Topps base set and 2018 Stadium Club this way and never again. Such a waste of money, for me. I admire and respect those who will build the set the "natural" way.

Going through series 1's checklist, I identified about five cards I wanted for various projects. I found them reasonably priced from between twenty cents and seventy-seven cents on Sportlots and will hope to see them to my house in a week plus one day. The plus one is due to Monday's holiday. I'll show those off here once I have them.

I haven't really even started going through the inserts yet to see if there is anything there. I'd likely only try to get a Darryl Strawberry or John Kruk card so long as it isn't an autograph. The checklists that are put out for this stuff is voluminous and obnoxious, so I may just search Sportlots or eBay for my PC players for the year 2025 and see what comes up.

How will you collect 2025? Through packs? Get the whole set later? Cherry pick for PCs?

In addition to the start of card season, pitchers and catchers have reported to Spring Training which is a great thing. Position players will start to arrive soon, too. This is all good as we're in the post-football pre-baseball time of year where there is nothing watchable sports-wise on television.

Has your team made any moves this off-season that you like? It seems like the local team for me, the Phillies, have lost out to teams like the A's and Red Sox who had somewhat surprisingly productive signings and trades. But, I find Dave Dombrowski heinously over-rated and unlikable, so my criticism should be measured through this lens.

All these words and no card images yet! Last September, when I wasn't yet blogging again, I went on a Jose Ramirez kick and got all of his base Topps cards. I really like him as a player and hope he can maintain his gritty play. He, and Gunnar Henderson and Bryson Stott, always seem to have filthy dirty uniforms. Though, now that I've written that and looked at these cards, most of them depict a clean set of togs.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I'll just be buying random packs of 2025 Topps and making sure I get the Dodgers team set. It's possible I'll be gifted a factory set at the end of the year, but my enthusiasm for this year's design is back to 2022 levels -- it's OK.

    1. I'm with you on the OK-ness. I haven't liked what I've seen online. Mostly the team names up the side and in particular the transparent part of the name. I doubt my feelings will change once in hand, but maybe I'll be surprised!
